3 Young ATP Tennis Superstars From Russia

Russia has produced many great ATP tennis champions in the past. However, in the last decade and a half, there has only been one male Grand Slam winner from the country. Marit Safin won the Australian Open way back in 2005. In the female section, Maria Sharapova had been holding the baton for Russian tennis till her retirement earlier this year after the Australian Open.

 However, in the last two years, 3 tennis stars from Russia have been making more and more progress. They are all now part of the top 20 in ATP singles rankings and are regarded as potential future Grand Slam winners Let’s look at the 3 stars and the impact they have made so far in their young careers.

These were at the Cincinnati Open and the Shanghai Open. Medvedev also reached the final of the US Open. He took Rafa Nadal to 5 sets and threatened to go all the way at one point. 

 The Russian tennis star currently sits and world number 5 in the ATP singles rankings. He achieved his career-best ranking of world number 4 last year. Daniil is regarded as one of the brightest future ATP tennis stars. He is expected to lift a Grand Slam trophy and also reach world number 1 rankings in his singles career. The young Russian has a remarkable career ahead of him.

The 24 year old is another highly talented player from Russia. He is also one of the brightest young ATP tennis stars on the tour. Khachanov had the career-best year so far in 2018. He won the Paris Masters 1000 event that year also broke into the top 10 of the rankings. Currently ranked world number 15, the strong built Russian had the highest rank of world number 8 in 2018. 

The Russian had a bit of lull in 2019 and the start of 2020. However with his talent and high range of shots, Khanchanov is not expected to be quiet for long. He has a lot of years ahead to become one of the great ATP tennis stars of his generation. He certainly has the talent to win Grand Slam titles.

At just 22 years of age Andrey Rublev is one of the most dangerous and hard-hitting ATP tennis stars on the tour. With 4 career titles already in his tally the Russian tennis star is well set to build a formidable career. He is currently enjoying his highest career rankings at world number 4. The Russian has a strong baseline power-hitting game. It helps him to dictate the play against most of the opponents. 

Rublev played the match of his life in 2019 Cincinnati Open when he beat the great Roger Federer. Along with his other two counterparts, he completes the trinity of future ATP tennis stars from Russia. All 3 of them have great talent, temperament as well as dedication to dominate the game.  They could make Russia the next tennis superpower on the ATP tour.
