The Australian legend famously known as the Rockhampton Rocket is another legend of the sport. He won all 4 Grand Slams in the same year twice in his career. This is known as the calendar slam and Laver did this twice, in the years 1962 and 1969. Laver finished his career with 11 major titles. He would have won a few more if not for those lost years of being banned due to amateur professional controversy. Laver also excelled on all surfaces having won each of the slams at least 2 times. This was in a time when technology and equipment in the game were not so advanced as the current times.
